NZ Idioms has moved to one permanent website: https://nz-idioms.pages.dev/. Some older home-screen icons still open the previous website. They can say “current version” while showing an older dictionary. This is not a fault with your phone.
1. Open the correct website on your phone
Connect to Wi-Fi.
On iPhone, open Safari. On Android, open Chrome.
Tap the browser’s address bar, clear its contents, and type https://nz-idioms.pages.dev. Tap Go. Put this address in the browser’s address bar, not in Google search or the app’s idiom search box.
If this message is on your phone, you can tap the link above. If it opens inside a messaging app, use its menu to open it in Safari or Chrome.
Once NZ Idioms opens, use the app’s search box: type balancing and tap SEARCH. You should find A balancing act.
If it is missing, tap Get current version (or Save for offline use) in this browser copy. Keep the app open until it finishes, then search again.
The dictionary published on 29 September contains 3,227 entries. Later editions may contain more. Finding “A balancing act” confirms these additions are present; it does not prove that every future update has been downloaded.
2. Keep the correct icon — iPhone
Stay on the working website in Safari.
Tap Share (the square with an upward arrow). Depending on your Safari layout, it may be inside the menu.
Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen. If missing, look under Edit Actions.
Name it Idioms NEW, leave Open as Web App on if offered, and tap Add.
Return to the home screen and open Idioms NEW.
Search for balancing again. If needed, use Get current version or Save for offline use in this new icon and wait for completion.
For offline use, make sure the new icon’s app says Saved for offline use. A browser tab and a home-screen app may have separate saved copies.
3. Keep the correct icon — Android
Stay on the working website in Chrome.
Tap the three-dot menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app, whichever appears. Follow the prompts.
If you can choose a name, use Idioms NEW. Some phones choose the app name automatically.
Open the newly added icon, search for balancing, and check that A balancing act appears.
In that icon’s app, tap Save for offline use or Get current version and wait for Saved for offline use.
4. Remove confusing old icons
Only remove an old icon after the new icon passes the search check. If you have an unsent feedback draft in the old app, copy it first; drafts do not move to the new address.
Touch and hold each old icon and choose the removal option your phone offers. On iPhone it may say Delete Bookmark, Remove App or Delete App. On Android it may say Remove or Uninstall. Take care to select an old icon, not the working new one. Removing an old copy does not change Bill’s master dictionary.
5. Future dictionary updates
Connect to Wi-Fi and open the working new icon.
Tap Get current version.
Keep the app open until the update finishes. If an error appears, the update has not been confirmed; reconnect and try again.
If Bill has announced a new entry, search for it to check the update.
Repeat on each phone, tablet or computer you use. Updating one device does not update the others.
You do not need a new icon for each future dictionary update. Keep using https://nz-idioms.pages.dev. Share this address, not an earlier trial link or an old QR code.
On a laptop or desktop
Open https://nz-idioms.pages.dev/ in your browser, check “balancing”, and replace any old bookmark with this address. If you also use an installed app icon, check it separately. You can print this page or forward its link to another person.
If it still does not work
Do not keep deleting and reinstalling icons or clear all your browser data. Tell Bill: your phone type; whether you opened Safari/Chrome or a home-screen icon; the website address if visible; the exact update message; and whether “balancing” appears. If possible, include the entry count from About & FAQ or the bottom of the app.
